A Pretty Unique Bike Shop Challenge

We first met Zach Choboter when he came by Cranky’s Bike Shop with a unique problem. Zach wanted to rollerblade around Iceland unassisted, and needed to figure out how to strap a bike trailer to his waist to pull along his gear. Not your everyday bike shop issue!

In 2021, Zach made a record-breaking rollerblading journey across Canada – 10,093 km. His purpose was to educate millions of people about the critical role pollinators like bees play in our food systems and global food security. From this journey, Blading For Bees was launched.

After completing his epic cross-Canada trip, Zach decided his next adventure would be skating around the whole of Iceland, alone and unsupported. To do so, he would need to figure out how to bring along a tent, food, cooking supplies, clothes, and more. Caught up in Zach’s contagious optimism, the Cranky’s team were stoked to help problem-solve and ultimately source parts for the wheels and braking system on this rugged, waist-rigged trailer. Zach completed his circumnavigation of Iceland in 2024, an amazing accomplishment!

Raising $1M for Pollinator Protection & World Hunger Relief

Zach has spent the last few years visiting schools, speaking at events, and assembling a dedicated team who share his commitment to protecting the planet.

Zach and Blading for Bees is now aiming to raise $1 million for pollinator protection and world hunger relief, while educating people about the very serious problem of the decline in pollinator populations – all while becoming the first human to circumnavigate Earth on inline skates.
